Tow Service Storage Lot Supplemental Application

All applicants for a Basic Business License for a Regulated Business (Tow Truck Storage Lot) must submit a Tow Truck Storage Lot Supplemental Application.

Daily Storage Fees
All applicants for a Basic Business License for the Tow Truck Storage Lot category must provide a list of the minimum and maximum daily fees which the applicant will charge for the storage of disabled motor vehicles at the applicant’s storage facility.
 
Hours of Operation
All applicants for a Basic Business License for the Tow Truck Storage Lot category must provide a statement detailing the location, description, and hourly availability of the tow truck.

Letter Listing Ownership Interest
All applicants for a Basic Business License for the Tow Truck Storage Lot category must provide a list containing the name, address, and telephone number of each individual, partner, and/or each officer of a corporation with an ownership interest in the towing business and storage service lot.
 
Tow Truck Storage Location
All applicants for a Basic Business License for the Tow Truck Storage Lot category must provide the primary storage location, year, make, model, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), and license plate number of each tow truck that will be used by the towing business.
 
Towing Fees
All applicants for a Basic Business License for the Tow Truck Storage Lot category must provide a schedule of minimum and maximum fees which the applicant will charge for the use of the tow truck in connection with providing various kinds of towing service, together with a full and detailed statement of the service to be rendered for each stated amount of fee.
 
General Operational Requirements
A tow truck storage lot must comply with the following:
  • The tow truck storage lot shall be located on a secured lot in the District of Columbia, with appropriate signage, and be in full compliance with all District of Columbia laws, regulations, including zoning regulations. A secured lot is a lot secured at least by a six (6) feet chain link fence capable of being locked.
  • The Basic Business License holder shall maintain a log of all vehicles towed to and from its location. The operator shall maintain a log and make it available for inspection by Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs investigators.
  • The Basic Business License holder shall apportion the lot into storage lot sections and clearly identify or designate the towing business responsible for each apportioned section.
  • The Basic Business License holder shall employ reasonable procedures and requirements to ensure that vehicles are released to rightful owners or other authorized individuals.
  • The Basic Business License holder shall conspicuously post, at each tow truck storage lot, the Owner’s Bill of Rights for Towed Vehicles statement issued by the Director of Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs; and upon release of the vehicle, shall provide a copy of this statement to the person to whom the vehicle is released.
