(WASHINGTON, DC) – The Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection (DLCP), along with its Consumer Protection Unit (CPU) and Office of Weights & Measures (OWM), will host four in-person outreach events across the District to help residents learn more about their consumer rights, marketplace protections, and how DLCP works to ensure fairness and accuracy in everyday transactions.

During these events, residents will have the opportunity to meet DLCP investigators and inspectors and learn about how the Office of Weights and Measures ensures consumers only pay for what they use at grocery stores, gas stations, pharmacies, and other retail locations. CPU staff will also explain how the agency investigates consumer complaints, brings businesses into compliance, and mediates cases where losses total $250 or more or where there is a pattern or practice of abuse.

CPU investigators will share tips on avoiding scams, reporting violations, and understanding common consumer protection issues. OWM inspectors will demonstrate how device inspections protect consumers by ensuring accurate measurements and fair pricing.

Outreach Dates and Locations (10:00 AM – 2:30 PM)

  • Monday, March 2, 2026 Safeway: 1100 4th Street SW

  • Tuesday, March 3, 2026 Giant Food: 1535 Alabama Ave SE

By engaging directly with residents, DLCP continues its work to strengthen consumer confidence and promote a fair and transparent marketplace across all eight wards.

DLCP encourages community members to stop by, engage with staff, and learn more about how the agency works every day to protect consumers across the District.
