General Information
The District of Columbia Combat Sports Commission regulates boxing, wrestling, martial arts, and mixed martial arts within the District and protects participants and consumers by upholding District combat sports license laws.
The Commission consists of five members appointed by the Mayor and approved by the D.C. Council. All members must be residents of the District of Columbia for the duration of their term.
The Commission meets on the second Wednesday of each month at 12:00 p.m. at the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection located at 1100 4th Street, SW, Washington, D.C. 20024. Due to the public health emergency, all board meetings are currently being held virtually.

- Valid government-issued ID (e.g., driver’s license)
- Debit or credit card to pay application, exam, or license fees
Inspector
Documents
- Prove to the satisfaction of the Commission that he or she has obtained three (3) or more years of experience as an inspector on the amateur level; or
- Prove to the satisfaction of the Commission that he or she has been actively engaged as a licensed timekeeper in the District or elsewhere for the three (3) years immediately preceding the date on which the application for an inspector’s license is filed.

Referee
Documents
- Prove to the satisfaction of the Commission that he or she has obtained three (3) or more years of experience as a referee on the amateur level; or
- Prove to the satisfaction of the Commission that he or she has been:
- Actively engaged as a licensed inspector or licensed judge in the District or elsewhere for the three (3) years immediately preceding the date on which the application for a referee’s license is filed; and
- Certified by the Association of Boxing Commissions & Combative Sports (ABC) as having completed approved training for referees.

Judge
Documents
- Prove to the satisfaction of the Commission that he or she has obtained three (3) or more years of experience as a judge on the amateur level; or
- Prove to the satisfaction of the Commission that he or she has been:
- Actively engaged as a licensed inspector in the District or elsewhere for the three (3) years immediately preceding the date on which the application for a judge’s license is filed; and
- Certified by the Association of Boxing Commissions Combative Sports (ABC)
- as having completed approved training for boxing judges.

Proof of licensure & an applicant for a license as a referee shall pass a medical examination conducted by a licensed physician approved by
